26/11 Probe — Why Judiciary Also Failed? (with DVD)

There was quite a flutter in the country, especially in the camps of the IB and right-wing groups, when the author of this book, S.M. Mushrif, in his first book, Who Killed Karkare?, smashed the IB and Police theory of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case and offered a more convincing alternative theory. In this new book, he comes back to narrate as to how the IB, in order to prove its false theory, not only interfered in the investigations of the case at every stage, but also employed its tremendous clout and, with the help of a section of the media and the Police, successfully pulled it through the corridors of the courts and ultimately kicked it to its final destination, i.e., the gallows. The book also describes the shrewd moves on the part of the IB to scuttle all attempts to get the case reinvestigated. The author has expressed his serious concern over the unbridled powers being enjoyed by the IB, an extra-constitutional authority, to the extent of influencing almost all our constitutional institutions. However, he has ended the book on an optimistic note — pinning his hopes on the judiciary.

Assam’s “Doubtful Citizens” : Fact or Fiction?

A misconception prevails among many people outside Assam that “lakhs” of “Bangladeshis” are residing in Assam and exercising franchise. This misconception developed due to publicity of the AASU for more than three decades-long period with the help of some press and political parties like BJP, a high bureaucrat like S.L. Shakdar, and a Governor of Assam, S.K. Sinha. Dr. Ahmed, with the help of mostly public documents, shows that all this is emotional exaggeration, has no empirical or statistical foundation, and as such is nothing more than a self-composed chorus of some pseudo-intellectuals.

Godse ki Aulaad

Godse’s Children: Hindutva Terror in India

The book ably documents evidence of saffron terror. — A.G. Noorani in Frontline

Hindutva terror has finally emerged. It was on 6 April, 2006 when Nanded witnessed a bomb blast at the house of Laxman Rajkondwar, a longtime RSS activist, killing his son and another Sangh activist. The blast brought to the fore the systematic manner in which people associated with RSS and allied outfits were engaged in making and storing explosives, imparting arms training and planning to bomb minorities as part of their mission to establish Hindu Rashtra in India. Five years later, investigating agencies are in the know of the involvement of Hindutva supremacists in dozens of earlier and later blasts like Malegaon and Samjhauta Express. The role of international linkages and networks of different Hindutva formations in collecting funds, mobilising resources and supporting the cause has added further ferocity to this project. The present book, the first comprehensive treatment of the subject, shows that Hindutva terror is not a mere regional or rare phenomenon. Apart from bringing forth the commonality of tactics used by these terror modules, the book also looks at the phenomenon historically and presents hitherto unexplored evidence. It also underlines the Himalayan task which awaits the investigating agencies as they are yet to nab any of the masterminds, planners, financiers and ideologues of these terror attacks despite ample evidence.

Golwalkar’s “We or our nationhood defined”: A critique with full text of the book

We are witnessing a concerted attempt by the RSS to establish MS Golwalkar as the ‘prophet of a resurgent India,’ ‘a saint,’ ‘the best son of Bharat mata,’ and the ‘biggest gift to Hindu society in the 20th Century,’… This inspite of the fact that Golwalkar, throughout his life, remained committed to the concept of Hindutva which meant an inherent faith in Casteism, Racism and Imperialism. He stood for the establishment of a Hindu rashtra, or nation, where minorities like Muslims and Christians could exist only as second class citizens. This book attempts to put across actual facts about Golwalkar’s life and beliefs in the light of his original writings, publications of the RSS, documents available in its archives and many other RSS documents the writer collected over the last 35 years from different parts of the country, especially the original text of his book We or Our Nationhood Defined (1939) which is being fully reproduced in this book. It is the most important text in order to understand the RSS’ concept of Hindu state, and has not been available to the public after 1947.

Hindu Nationalism and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh

“This book traces the history of Hindu nationalism with a special focus on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as its prominent flag bearer. Through an in-depth study of archival sources and more recent documents, the author challenges the claim of Hindu nationalism as being primordial. He argues that in addition to being a modern construct, it laid the foundation of Hindu separatism or a two-nation theory which was later adopted by Muslim separatists like Mohammed Ali Jinnah.
This book describes the growth of Hindu nationalism and its appearance as Hindutva which glorifies Casteism, Racism and totalitarianism. This work also investigates how the book Hindutva authored by VD Savarkar (1923) and MS Golwalkar’s We or Our Nationhood Defined (1939) continue to determine the discourse of Hindu nationalism.
The author has spent more than three decades collecting and scrutinizing original RSS documents from different parts of the country, especially the ones relating to pre-Independence India. These documents are the foundation for the direction which RSS was destined to take as a sectarian Hindu separatist organization opposed to democratic, secular and egalitarian ideals. ”

Image and Substance: Modi’s First Year in Office

It is indeed paradoxical that political strategy exercised by the same man, which led to BJP’s defeat in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, played a key role in helping the same party return to power in 2014 with a massive mandate. The man was the same, Narendra Modi. But the strategy exercised by him and his team during their campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was totally different. With a focus on this, the author, a veteran journalist and commentator, probes into what can be viewed as a communication strategy during Modi’s first year in office as Prime Minister. The alacrity with which Modi has, throughout his political career, displayed his tendency to dominate media headlines stands out too markedly to be ignored. This has been an important tool of his communication strategy. This book elaborates on the degree to which Modi’s communication strategy can be viewed as a success in promoting his credentials as India’s premier.
