The Covid19 pandemic in 2020 was a bonanza for these forces to malign the whole Indian Muslim community which was accused of spreading the pandemic as part of a diabolical plan. This study covers some aspects of this hateful chapter in our recent history.”
The Kanwar Yatra 2025—Victmisation of Muslims by weaponizing a festival
“Kanwar Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage observed in parts of North India. Each year, during the month of Savan (July–August), devotees walk barefoot to collect Ganga water from sacred sites and carry it back to Shiva temples in various localities to perform Abhishek, the ritual bathing of the shivalingams kept in temples.
From a solemn and peaceful annual pilgrimage undertaken by thousands, it has now evolved into an event involving millions thanks to the involvement in recent years of Hindutva elements who use it for consolidation of their votebank and show their concern for Hindus causes. As a result, once a quiet, introspective act of faith, driven by piety and penance, has increasingly become a raucous, socio-political event marked by violence, political patronage, and communal polarization, and exclusion of non-Hindus from use of roads and closure of Muslim-owned shops and eateries on the pilgrimage routes. This report studies the issues related to the yatra in 2025.”

This collection of documents, being published separately in Urdu and English, covers the work of the first 50 years of the history of the Indian Muslim common platform, the All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat whose triumphs, trials and travails are the same as that of the Indian Muslim community, the largest Muslim concentration in the world after Indonesia. Each volume in this collection includes the records that could be found in English or Urdu. It shows that not much changed for the community over these years. Yet this collection has a lot for us in terms of lessons, hope and apprehension for the future.

Zafarul-Islam Khan (born 12 March 1948) is an Indian scholar. He studied in Indian madrasas, Al‑Azhar and Cairo universities in Egypt and the UK, where he obtained his PhD from Manchester University in Islāmic Studies in 1987. He worked as a translator-editor with the Libyan Foreign Ministry during 1973-1979. Later, he served as a senior research fellow at The Muslim Institute, London, during 1979-1992. He is the director of the Institute of Islāmic & Arab Studies, New Delhi. He was the editor of Muslim & Arab Perspectives and Majallah al-Tarīkh Al-Islāmī/Journal of Islāmic History. He is the author and translator of over 50 books in Arabic, English, and Urdu. He has contributed eight articles to the Second Edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islām (Leiden) on Indo-Muslim subjects.

Justice Panickaveettil Kottilungal Shamsuddin (born 1931), was a judge of the Kerala High Court during 1986-1993. Supreme Court designated him as a senior advocate in 1999. He received many national and international awards and was involved with a number of educational and cultural organisations in India and abroad as well as in peace-making efforts in his home state. He contributed many articles to newspapers and magazines and published a work on human rights in Islam and his autobiography, both in Malayalam.

Ehtesham Qutubuddin Siddiqui was been incarcerated since 2006 for “involvement” in the Mumbai Train blast case, was on death row since 2015, then acquitted in 2025. He was first arrested in 2001 for being a member of SIM (Students’ Islamic Movement) while he was a third year student of chemical engineering in Raigadh. Later, he was released on bail on the condition that he should report at Kurla police station twice a day. As a result, he could not complete his education. He started a printing business and later established Shahadah, an Islamic book publishing house, in 2004 and got married in 2005. For the 11 July 2006 blasts, he was arrested on 24 July 2006.

Letters of Spies — How British captured Delhi in 1857
Little is known about the Revolt of 1857 from the rebels perspective. But there is a large body of official records, diaries and personal narratives of the British officials and others who witnessed the ‘Mutiny’. Even though these mainly contain the heavily biased British version, they also contain significant details about the rebels and their cause. For more than a decade the author has been collecting rare documents (in Persian, Urdu, English and Hindi) of the period of 1857 rebellion from India and outside.

Towards a Sociology of Islam
This work attempts to critically examine the empirical method adopted in the modern social sciences evolving in the historical context of post-medieval European society. It highlights the points of conflict that this method has with the Islamic worldview which created and sustained a distinct Islamic society on the Madinan model.
