He studied in Indian madrasas, Al\u2011Azhar and Cairo universities in Egypt and the UK, where he obtained his PhD from Manchester University in Isl\u0101mic Studies in 1987. He\u00a0worked as a translator-editor with the Libyan Foreign Ministry during 1973-1979. Later, he served as a senior research fellow at The Muslim Institute, London, during 1979-1992. He is the director of the Institute of Isl\u0101mic &#038; Arab Studies, New Delhi. He was the editor of Muslim &#038; Arab Perspectives and Majallah al-Tar\u012bkh Al-Isl\u0101m\u012b\/Journal of Isl\u0101mic History. He is the author and translator of over 50 books in Arabic, English, and Urdu.
